2009 fund campaign under way

Will you help us to help raise a state full of readers?

The Read Aloud concept is simple: Children who enjoy reading will practice. Those who practice improve. Better readers have advantages throughout school and life.

If something interferes with that early discovery of reading for pleasure, children may miss out on a lifetime of practice, education, fulfillment and potential. Read Aloud West Virginia works to help children live up to their potential, and to have fun doing it.

Will you help us?

In essence, Read Aloud West Virginia markets reading the way companies market products. Your tax-deductible donations support programs that train and place volunteer readers in classrooms, provide students with tempting books and magazines, give kits of stimulating literary activities to classrooms, and support parents in raising readers. All of these efforts serve as "commercials" for reading.

A grant from the Benedum Foundation last August gave new life to Read Aloud. In just one year the program has grown from four county chapters to nine: Cabell, Kanawha, Mercer, Mingo, Monongalia, Pocahontas, Raleigh, Roane and Upshur. More are organizing. To continue this growth, additional funding is required.

While all donations are tax deductible, contributors of $500 or more may receive an additional tax benefit. Read Aloud has been awarded tax credit vouchers through the West Virginia Legislature's Neighborhood Investment Program. Donors making a minimum donation of $500 may receive up to 50 percent of the amount contributed in the form of state tax credits. These credits may be used to reduce liability for corporate net income tax, business franchise tax, and/or personal income tax. Because the number of vouchers awarded to Read Aloud is limited, they will be issued to donors meeting the eligible minimum in the order in which contributions are received.

You may donate through PayPal by clicking on the donate buttons on this Web site, or you may send donations to our postal address at the top of this page. If you are interested in donating and claiming tax credits through the Neighborhood Investment Program, please call, write or email us.

There is no time to waste, so please join us today! Thank you for supporting Read Aloud West Virginia.
