Reader-Friendly Classrooms

Read Aloud helps teachers create text-rich, reader friendly schools through our Book Distribution and Volunteer Reader programs that serve students in their classrooms. Any school in West Virginia is eligible to enroll with Read Aloud to receive no-cost benefits and support.

Become a Read Aloud School

Because research shows that the first step to learning any skill is motivation, we focus on motivating children to read by sharing the joy of reading and giving students access to high interest books and magazines. The best teacher and instructional method will fail if the student isn’t motivated to acquire that skill, which is why Read Aloud works directly with schools to provide services to their students. Any school in the state is eligible to enroll with us for free, qualifying them for the following benefits:

  • Weekly classroom visits from trained volunteers to model the joy of reading for students.
  • Free book and magazine distributions.
  • Parent education materials.
  • Speakers for parent workshops and faculty in-service meetings.
If you’d like to enroll your school, visit our School Sign-Up page for instructions and forms.

In addition to weekly classroom readers, enrolled schools can request these materials for students:

Assorted Books

Click the icon to use our online Book Distribution application to request books for students. We can also help you to develop fun book distribution events for parents and students like our Flashlight Night and Snuggle & Read. Please keep in mind that most book distributions will need transport from our Charleston office.

Book Trunks

Diversify your classroom library with our assorted book trunks available to borrow for a year at a time. Click the link above to peruse inventories. Email us to request a trunk: stateoffice@readaloudwv.org. Please keep in mind that book trunks will need transport from our Charleston office.

Kids' Magazines

We have a lot of Highlights magazines to give away, plus some other, outdoorsy titles like Zoobies and Big Back Yard, though those are available in smaller quantities. Magazines come in boxes of 50. Email us at stateoffice@readaloudwv.org with the number of boxes you'd like and your plan to pick up from our Charleston office.

Visit our Book Distribution page to find out more about what we do to put books in kids’ hands.
